LessHome

Info
Rents are rising incessantly, affordable housing is becoming scarce. The dream of owning one’s own home evaporates, family planning is postponed, divorces fail due to a lack of housing, and more and more people live in fear for their homes. Anyone looking for an apartment must bend to the landlords’ demands to the point of self-denial.
In “LessHome,” politics reacts to the housing crisis with an absurd solution: The startup LessHome is intended to sustainably preserve living space as an existential resource. Furniture stores provide their showrooms as model apartments where applicants can live on a trial basis for a limited time. At the grand opening event of the Federal Ministry of Homeland Affairs, they present themselves as ideal “LessHomies.” Flexibility, discipline, ingenuity, and willingness to make sacrifices become crucial qualifications. A bitingly satirical piece about housing shortages, social inequality, and the question of how much humanity one is willing to give up for a home.
