In her piece, Daura Hernández García explores grief as a process of transformation and asks what happens to us when we lose something—a person, a life plan, or a familiar image of ourselves. The dance solo weaves together very personal experiences, such as those surrounding perimenopause and aging, with more general forms of farewell like moving, breakups, and leaving places of origin or roles, questioning how loss and grief shape our bodies, our self-image, and our relationships.

A shop window in Stuttgart’s urban space serves as the stage, becoming a projection surface for internal processes. While the audience stands outside on the street with headphones, a finely tuned interplay of dance, voice, and live sound unfolds inside: using a loop station, the artist layers soundscapes that make memories, thought loops, and emotional waves audible. “Mourning Butterflies” thus opens a space in which grief is neither dramatized nor hidden, but becomes tangible as a collective experience within the city.
